WHY REDEMPTION?
The REDEMPTION...Not Just Reentry Paradigm
REDEMPTION…Not Just Reentry honors the vital work that reentry programs continue to do across the country and around the world. These programs have helped countless individuals reconnect with their communities, access essential services, and begin rebuilding their lives after incarceration. At the same time, the word reentry can sometimes carry an unintended stigma, subtly tying a person’s identity to their past rather than the future they are capable of creating. REDEMPTION…Not Just Reentry represents a shift in language and perspective—an emerging movement that expands the conversation from simply returning to society toward restoration, dignity, and long-term transformation.
This movement does not replace the important work of reentry—it amplifies it. REDEMPTION calls for a broader narrative rooted in opportunity, resilience, and community support, strengthened through partnerships with faith-based organizations, civic institutions, and local leadership. By focusing on the whole person and the strength of families and communities, the movement encourages a generational approach that helps break cycles of incarceration and poverty—ensuring that the journey home is defined not by the past, but by healing, growth, and lasting impact.
